A Message from the Principal

School Year 2025-2026

March 2026

Dear PS 50 Families,

As we continue building on the incredible momentum into the month of March. I want to thank our families for your ongoing partnership and for the many ways you support our school community. Your presence and engagement make PS 50 a vibrant place for our students to learn, grow, and celebrate together.

March is Women’s History Month, a time for us to recognize and honor the countless contributions of women who have shaped our history, strengthened our communities, and inspired future generations. Throughout the month, our students will be learning about influential women in history, science, mathematics, the arts, and beyond. We look forward to celebrating the achievements and leadership of women while encouraging our scholars to see themselves as future innovators and changemakers.

We are also excited to welcome families to several upcoming events this month. On March 11th, we will host our Postponed 100 Years of Black History Month Celebration, where our students work will be showcased in a Gallery Walk that honors a century of Black excellence and achievement. On March 18th, we invite families to join us for our Women in Math Curriculum Night, an evening dedicated to highlighting the important role women play in mathematics and encouraging our scholars to explore the world of problem-solving and innovation. Later in the month, on March 25th, we will gather as a community for our Eid Dinner, celebrating the traditions and cultures of many of our families while continuing to strengthen the bonds within our school community.

At PS 50, we strongly believe that family involvement is one of the most important factors in student success. As we move through the spring months, we encourage all families to participate in our school events and activities whenever possible. Whether attending celebrations, curriculum nights, or community gatherings, your presence helps us continue building a welcoming and connected school community for all.

In addition, the NYC Department of Education Parent Survey is now open, and we are aiming for 100% participation from our families. Your feedback is incredibly important and helps guide decisions that impact our school community. The survey only takes a few minutes to complete, and your voice truly matters. If you need assistance completing the survey, please do not hesitate to reach out to the school—we are happy to help.

Thank you for your continued support, partnership, and dedication to PS 50. Together, we will continue strengthening our school, uplifting our students, and building a community where everyone feels seen, valued, and inspired.

Warm Regards,

Ramesh Walter

February 2026

Dear PS 50 Families,

As we celebrate Black History Month, I want to take a moment to thank you for helping make our First Annual Literacy Night a tremendous success. Your participation, energy, and commitment to our students made the evening truly special. Based on your survey feedback and requests, we have heard your voice and are excited to share that we are committed to hosting a family event every month for the remainder of the school year.

Throughout this month, we hope you’ve had the opportunity to see how our halls have been transformed to celebrate the many contributions of African Americans. As we honor Black history, we proudly celebrate Black resilience, innovation, selflessness, and excellence. We were also thrilled to welcome families into the building for our Black History Month celebrations. Seeing our community come together in pride and joy was inspiring.

The excitement did not stop there. To recognize and celebrate the richness of Caribbean culture within our school community, we hosted our Carnival Initiative Assembly during the week of February 9, 2026. A wonderful time was had by students across all grade levels. Our scholars created amazing projects and deepened their understanding of the diverse cultures that make up our school community. As we continue to grow, we look forward to highlighting even more countries and cultures represented within PS 50.

We are also looking ahead to our upcoming Walk with Walter. To ensure that even more families can participate, this event may pivot to a remote format. During our time together, we will discuss the parent survey results, our continued collaboration with families, and the important work of building PS 50 as a true community hub.

Finally, our parent surveys are now open, and our goal is 100% completion. If you need assistance completing the survey, we will have a support station available to help. Families who complete the survey will be entered into raffles and giveaways for a chance to win school SWAG.

Thank you for your continued partnership and commitment to excellence. Together, we are building something special at PS 50.

Warm Regards,

Ramesh Walter

January 2026

Welcome to the New Year!

As we begin a new year and reach the midway point of our school year, I want to take a moment to reflect on how far we have come together and share our excitement for what lies ahead. This time of year brings renewed energy, focus, and opportunity, and our school community continues to rise to the occasion.

Many of our key instructional initiatives are truly hitting their stride. Our Multi-Tiered Systems of Support (MTSS) are strengthening the ways we identify and respond to student needs, ensuring every learner receives timely and targeted support. Our English as a New Language (ENL) program continues to grow and thrive, celebrating the linguistic and cultural assets our students bring to our school. We are also proud of the progress within our Students with Disabilities programs, as well as the ongoing excellence and innovation in our general education instructional programs, all working together to support student success.

Beyond the classroom, we are thrilled about the momentum building around our Carnival Initiative, which has brought joy, school spirit, and community connection to life. We are also eagerly preparing for our first-ever Literacy Night, where families will come together to celebrate reading, learning, and the power of literacy at home and at school. And as February approaches, we cannot wait to show you what we have in store for Black History Month, as we honor history, culture, and the voices that continue to shape our world.

At the heart of all we do is listening. We deeply value parent, teacher, and student feedback, and your voices continue to guide our decision-making. In response, we are expanding our outreach by building a stronger social media presence through our Instagram accounts and ensuring our school website more accurately reflects the richness and diversity of our school community.

We are also committed to creating more opportunities for open dialogue. Through additional parent and student town halls, we aim to foster transparency and shared leadership so that everyone has an equal voice in shaping our school’s future.

Our work is strengthened through collaboration with our School Leadership Team and Parent Teacher Association, as we plan additional events that bring our community together. We are also excited to welcome new community partners who will help provide meaningful, engaging experiences for our students and families.

Thank you for your continued trust, partnership, and support. Together, we are building a school community rooted in collaboration, equity, and pride. The best is yet to come, and we look forward to sharing an exciting and impactful second half of the school year with you.

Warm Regards,

OCTOBER 2025

Dear PS 50 Community,

I want to take a moment to thank each of you—students, families, and staff—for all that you have done to make this school year such a strong and promising start. Through our student town halls, community conversations, and shared reflections, we’ve heard your voices, your hopes, and your ideas for what PS 50 can and should be. Your input continues to guide our growth and shape the future of our school.

This year, we are proud to partner with organizations that share our passion for children and our commitment to equity and excellence. Our Saturday Programming will launch soon, bringing new opportunities for enrichment, creativity, and exploration beyond the traditional school day.

Most importantly, we are working to close the opportunity gap by changing the way we approach teaching and learning. Through our partnership with YourWay, we are embracing innovation—including the thoughtful use of artificial intelligence—to support personalized, engaging instruction for all learners.

Our instructional focus on MTSS (Multi-Tiered Systems of Support) continues to drive our efforts to ensure that every child receives the targeted instruction and interventions they need to thrive. We are being explicit, intentional, and data-driven in the way we deliver instruction and monitor student growth.

By the end of this month, we are excited to introduce our School Store and Positive Behavior Intervention System (PBIS). Students will have the opportunity to earn “Star Bucks” for demonstrating our school values and can use them to participate in fun incentives and rewards.

At PS 50, our core values—RISE: Resilience, Innovation, Selflessness, and Excellence—guides everything we do. Because together, we are more than just a school; we are the Home of the Rising Stars of Queens.

With gratitude and pride,

Principal Walter

SEPTEMBER 2025

Dear PS 50 Community,

It is with great pride and excitement that I welcome you to a new school year at PS 50! As your Principal, I am honored to serve a community so deeply committed to the success and well-being of every child.

Our leadership Team is centered around collaboration and inclusivity—working hand in hand with students, families, educators, and community partners to create a nurturing environment where everyone feels valued and empowered.

At PS 50, we hold high expectations for student learning while ensuring that instruction is engaging, rigorous, and responsive to the diverse cultures, languages, and experiences that make up our vibrant school community.

Equally important is our commitment to supporting the social and emotional needs of our students, families, and staff. We know that when our students feel safe, seen, and supported, they are best positioned to thrive academically and personally.

This year, we look forward with enthusiasm and optimism for all that lies ahead. Together, we will continue to build a school where curiosity is encouraged, voices are celebrated, and every child shines brightly.

Thank you for your trust and partnership. The future is bright at PS 50—because here, we are truly… The Rising Stars of Queens
